Getting a Hair Sample and a
Skin-Scrape to Check for Mites

Demodex Canis mites or Demodectic mange causes hair loss in dogs and puppies and is easily diagnosed by performing a deep skin-scraping and a hair-pluck from the affected area, then examined under a microscope. The eggs and various stages of the mites lifecycle can be seen and then the correct treatment can be prescribed.
