A tube is placed in the nostril of a critical patient and this supplies oxygen that is necessary to prevent further lung injury and support patients that have had trauma. The oxygen is supplied through the tube by an oxygen concentrator - a machine which produces almost-pure oxygen from the surrounding normal air.
